The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Story:
Over 300 years ago, one of the most horrific things in our nation's history happened just north of Boston in a small town by the name of Salem. Nineteen people were put to death by hanging after being accused of witchcraft. The Spellman family, who were residents of Salem Village, got word of the uprising happening in Salem town, and they fled to Greendale, a sleepy town in New York. You see, they had to flee, as the Spellman family, were in this case, actual witches. The family continued their life in Greendale over the course of hundreds of years staying safely away from the witch-hunts happening back home.
Sabrina Spellman, the daughter of Edward Spellman who was the former High Priest of the Church of Night, has just signed the Book of the Beast after her 16thbirthday and her Dark Baptism, with her familiar, Salem the black cat, safely by her side. After this scary and life-changing event, Sabrina was headed back to the Spellman Mortuary, where she and her two aunts, and cousin lived together. On her way home, she spotted a shadowy figure in the trees that seemed to follow her. Salem knew something was wrong as well, for he began to walk directly in front of Sabrina, it was his duty to protect her and keep her safe at all costs. Before both Sabina and Salem knew it, the figure leaped from behind the trees, grabbed the hissing cat Salem, and then the figure was gone, all before Sabrina even had a chance to shout for help. Salem was gone, and Sabrina was alone. She had to save him, she had no idea who could have taken him or why. Sabrina darted back as fast as she could to the mortuary to beg Ambrose, her cousin, and warlock, for help in what to do.
Once back at the mortuary, Sabrina found Ambrose in the embalming room working. She ran up to him exclaiming that he must help her and she doesn’t know what to do, Salem must be saved, she can’t attend the Academy of the Unseen Arts without him. Ambrose quickly takes his apron off and tells Sabrina to follow him to his personal library of charms and spell books. They begin to study and look for who has the power to kidnap familiars, and where one can take them.
“Ambrose, look here, this says that the only place that familiars can be taken where they can’t send me a message is the Underworld! I have to go now! Who knows what could be happening to Salem!” Ambrose looks at Sabrina with worry in his eyes,
“The Underworld is a dangerous place for even the strongest of witches and warlocks. Sabrina, you’re half mortal. Lilith, the Dark Lord’s right-hand knows when anyone comes and goes from the underworld. She’ll trick you into staying there.”
“I have to go, Ambrose, Salem would do anything to protect me, and so I have to do anything to save him. Help me or not, I’m going.” Sabrina said firmly.
Sabrina and Ambrose waited until the cover of nightfall to sneak off to the old abandoned mines deep in the forest.
“This is it, Sabrina, this is the entrance to the Underworld. Now just remember, Lilith will know once you cross over the River Styx, she will come to find you.” Ambrose reminded her.
“Don’t let her fool me. She’ll try everything to trick me into staying there, I’ve got it.” Sabrina said slightly annoyed.
Ambrose hugged Sabrina “Good luck little cousin, be safe down there. I’ll be here waiting when you and Salem come back.” Sabrina nodded and half smiled, before walking into the darkness of the open mine shaft.
Once Sabrina was alone, walking farther and farther into the center of the Earth, she could feel herself both getting stronger and weaker. She was slowly forgetting her mortal self, what school did she go to? What were her best friends name again? Her boyfriend's name? Did she even have a boyfriend? What is a boyfriend? At the same time, she could feel her powers strengthen. Ambrose has told her this would happen back before she left.
“Sabrina, the closer to the Dark Lord you get, the less mortal you will become. You’ll forget everything about the mortal world.”
“What about Harvey?” Sabrina asked worriedly.
“You’ll probably forget all about him. Who he is, what he meant to you.”
“Forever?!” Sabrina said in fright. “How? I love him, I would never forget who he is.”
“Lilith and the Dark Lord have that power, they’ll want you to stay down there with them. Especially because you’re Edward’s daughter, it will prove that the Spellman’s can be controlled by the Church of Night.”
Eventually, Sabrina reached the bridge that crossed over the River Styx, and as she was crossing into the underworld, she could see a figure coming out of the darkness further up the path.
“Sabrina, I’m so glad you came, I am thrilled to see you” the familiar voice called out.
“Father? Is that you?” Sabrina exclaimed. “Is it really you? How could it be?”
Sabrina’s father had been dead for over 10 years, could this really be him? Sabrina walked faster towards him. Once she reached him, she attempted to give her father a hug but noticed he stepped backward, away from her. She didn’t understand but figured it could only be because it’s been so long since they had seen each other. She paid no mind to it and asked her father if he had seen Salem anywhere in the Underworld.
Her father shook his head “No my dear Sabrina, I haven’t seen your poor familiar, and I don’t know who took him either.”
Sabrina looked at him “I didn’t say anyone took him, father. How would you have known that?”
Edward looked down at Sabrina; his eyes suddenly went from a beautiful caramel color to a black as night. His face twisted into a horrific grin, and then he vanished. It was as if he was never there standing in front of her. Then it hit her this was a trick. Lilith dangled her deceased father in front of her as an attempt to keep her in the underworld with him. Sabrina then heard a faint meow in the distance. She recognized the meow, it must have been Salem. She took off running in search for her beloved familiar. She found a long hallway where Salem’s cries were getting louder and louder.
She continued to chase after the sound until the found it, the cage where they were keeping Salem. She was beyond ecstatic to see her protector and to save him. She opened the cage, grabbed Salem, and turned around to leave but blocking the doorway was a young boy, roughly the same age, with floppy brown hair. He looked familiar, but she couldn’t put her finger on how she knew the young boy.
“Sabrina, you know you can’t take us back with you. You have to take me back with you.” The boy said.
She was so confused as to how she knew the boy, “Why would I take you with me? I don’t even know who you are.”
“It’s me.” He said walking towards her “Harvey. I followed you here to make sure you were safe.”
She truly didn’t understand. Who was this boy? Who was Harvey? Why had he followed her, and where did he follow her from? As she clutched onto Salem, burring her nose in his fur. He smelt like home to her, like her aunts and cousin. Then she began to remember her conversations with Ambrose and how she would forget things. How she would forget her mortal life, and how she would forget her boyfriend, Harvey.
“Harvey?! What are you doing here?!” She exclaimed.
“I needed to know you were safe.” He responded
“I am, but I don’t know how to get you back to the mortal world with me. I only have the power to bring myself back with Salem. Why would you follow me here?”
Harvey looked around the room “It’s not so bad here. We could always just stay.”
Sabrina was horribly confused. “Harvey, we can’t stay here. This is a literal hell. People are damned here; you don’t know what you’re talking about. C’mon, this way.”
Sabrina walked past Harvey back towards the bridge over the river. Harvey grabbed her arm.
“No really, Sabrina, let's just stay here. We can be happy here. Together.”
Sabrina thought to herself that there was no way this could be the real Harvey, this too had to be a trick, just like her father. She yanked her arm back and started running. She dropped Salem so he could run too and he took off in front of her to make sure she’d be okay. As she was racing toward the bridge, she looked over her shoulder and Harvey was chasing after her, yelling for her to stay with him. He was running and then bent down on all fours as he morphed into Cerberus, with Lilith atop. The three-headed guardian of the underworld gnashed his teeth at Sabrina as they both ran in pursuit of the bridge. She only had a little bit further to go, chasing after Salem, and away from the evil Lilith.
Once Sabrina made it to the bridge, she blacked out. Was it from fear, panic, excitement? She opened her eyes looking up at her cousin Ambrose.
“You did it, Cousin, you saved Salem!” Ambrose exclaimed while clutching Sabrina as she began to drift off again, for getting out of the Underworld took most, if not all of her energy.
Once things were normal, and she had Salem back, Sabrina began to attend Baxter High in Greendale, with her mortal friends, and her mortal boyfriend, Harvey Kinkle. How could she really look at him the same though? Her father was one thing, he was actually gone, but Harvey? Will the visions of him morphing into a three-headed beast ever leave the mind of Sabrina Spellman? At least she had Salem there with her.

Analysis:

Part I:
-The Call
The call in my Sabrina story was a call by force, but a dreaded call. Her beloved familiar, the one who is supposed to protect her, is taken away. She is really given no choice but to do something about him being taken.

-The Threshold / The Descent / The Abyss
These three could arguably be used at the same time for when Sabrina literally goes into a dark, unknowing journey into the Underworld, a dangerous place for “even the strongest of witches”. She feels as if she has no choice but to go to save Salem, even though she has been told she will forget half of herself and half of her memories and all of the mortal people she knows. Including the person that she loves the most, Harvey.

Part II:
-Tests and Ordeals
Sabrina goes through three tests on her journey to save Salem. First, she meets her father, who has been dead for over 10 years, and he tries to keep her there by not telling her where Salem is located. Sabrina catches the slip up in their conversation and calls him out on it.
The second test and ordeal that she goes through are when she runs into Harvey, her mortal boyfriend. First, she must remember who he is, and then she tries to get him to leave with her, which he is having no part of. She figures that this is a trick also, and takes off running.

-The Abyss
Sabrina faces a second Abyss as she is running from Harvey. He turns into the three-headed dog who protects the Dark Lord and the Underworld and chases after her. She literally has to run for her life and get away from the monster that is the dog.

Part III:
-The Return
The return back to the mortal world and back to Baxter High seems to be a challenge for Sabrina, as she is scarred by the memories of what she thought was the love of her life, morphing into a horrible creature, trying to capture her.
